Research Question: How does a teaching for mastery approach support students with middling prior attainment at GCSE to be successful at A Level?

Who can take part?

This Research and Innovation Work Group is open to all schools offering A Level Maths. This work will support all students to be successful at A Level Maths, particularly those with GCSE Grades 6-7 or below in Maths.

What is involved?

Building on Research and Innovation activity in 2024/25, this theme provides colleagues working with classes of middle-attaining A Level students with an opportunity to create and test lesson materials.

The bank of ideas worked with in 2024/25 will be the starting point, and the group will create and test a series of lessons and accompanying teacher guidance that promote teaching for mastery pedagogies. The work of this Research and Innovation Work Group theme is intended to influence the A Level Pedagogy Project in future years.

What is the cost?

This project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme, so is free to participating schools.
