This Work Group is for teachers from target schools that have a high proportion of disadvantaged students. This Work Group will explore a variety of student tasks, to support high attainment in secondary mathematics
Participants will explore effective pedagogical approaches which enable all students to access and deeply understand the content. Participants will be expected, where appropriate, to work with colleagues in their own departments.
Participants’ schools must commit to:
• releasing them to attend all Work Group sessions.
• allowing them to develop their practice in their classroom and share this with departmental colleagues.
• allowing their students to participate in additional AMSP activities to support higher attainment in maths.
Participants must commit to:
• attending all Work Group sessions and engaging with and completing school-based tasks between Work Group sessions.
Click on the options below to take a look at the intended outcomes for each of the following areas:
Students, in target schools, will:
• develop a deep understanding of the most demanding secondary maths topics.
• be more motivated to achieve high grades in GCSE Mathematics.
• be more likely to progress to study mathematics at Level 3.
Participants will work with AMSP Local Leads and Maths Hubs to:
• develop cultures and practice in their school to enable a higher proportion of students to achieve high grades in GCSE maths and progress to study maths at Level 3.
• develop pedagogical practices which enable more equitable outcomes at the highest levels of GCSE for students facing disadvantage.
Participants will:
• embed a culture of high expectations.
• adapt their practice to embed focus tasks into their classrooms.
• raise students’ awareness of opportunities for progression to mathematics at Level 3.
Participants will:
• understand what outstanding school culture and practice looks like to foster high maths attainment for students.
• develop knowledge and pedagogical skills which enable equitable access to the most demanding secondary maths topics for all students.
This project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme and the AMSP so is free to participating schools.
